Zagórz Discalced Carmelite Monastery

The monumental eighteenth century ruins of the Baroque Discalced Carmelite church and monastery are one of the few examples of a fortified monastery. The whole structure was built of yellow sandstone, transported from a nearby quarry. The Church had a main nave and two side chapels. It stands on a lofty hill, surrounded on three sides by river Osława. More parts of the monastic buildings had fire but despite several attempts to rebuild it there was no way to save it before once again falling gradually into disrepair.
Today, apart from the ruins of the church, you can see the remains of the building, a guardhouse, monk's cells and economic buildings which are surrounded by preserved even defensive walls. On the rebuilt tower there is a view point place with a telescope. Using it you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Bieszczady Mountains.
Some people from Sosnowa Aleja can tell the tourists about the interesting legends and historical events about this monastery.
