The war cemetery of The Three Powers

The war cemetery in Lesko was created by German Commando No.4 which was located in Rymanów. The construction was supervised by the gendarme commandant Filip Vortub who was a representative of the city authorities. All the work was finished in 1916. About 600 soldiers of the Russian, German, Austrian-Hungarian armies rest in collective graves in Lesko cemetery. The sick and the elderly were also buried there. The soldiers being participants of WW I were multinational people and the followers of different religions. They all lie in that cemetery. At the entrance there is a wooden gate with the inscription "MORS SOLA VICTRIS - GLORIA VICTIS". It means: "Because only death is victorious, therefore, glory to the defeated". There are also some tables placed below with the inscription in different languages which means "After heavy, difficult and bloody battles, here in sleep, lay in rest, the united heroes of war. They all were buried like the soldiers and the people say about them:
"...ZA ŻYCIA SKŁÓCENI, ŚMIERCIĄ POGODZENI, RAZEM ZŁOŻYLI TU KOŚCI...". It means: they were quarreling when they were alive, the death reconciled them and they are buried in one common grave.
