The Synagogue - Art gallery in Lesko

The synagogue in Lesko is a unique, impressive building erected in the years 1626-1654. During World War II it was seriously destroyed. After the end of the war it was condemned to slow destruction for about 20 years. In 1980 the synagogue started to be renovated. That is why the present equipment of the synagogical interior differs from the original one. Since 1995 there has been here the headquarters of the Museum of Galicia Jews and the Art Gallery "Bieszczadzkie Zadumania". There is also a small collection of Judaica.
The tourists from Sosnowa Aleja, visiting the synagogue in Lesko, got many information about the history of the Jewish who used to live here. They also bought some souvenirs made by the local artists.
