The Wyżna Pass - The place to start going to Połoniny

The Wyżna Pass (873m over the sea level) is also called The Pass over Berehy. The yellow hiking trail starts from the car park and leads us to the top of Połonina Wetlińska mountain (1232 m over the sea level) where there is the shelter called "Chatka Puchatka".
Standing on Wyżna Pass you can see the monument dedicated to "The Victims of the Mountains and Rescuers helping them". It not only remains us of tragic events but also realizes that many tragedies have been prevented thanks to the rescue action.
Two big boulders linked by an orthodox motif are Jerzy Harasimowicz's symbolic grave. He was a poet and loved Bieszczady. His ashes were scattered over Połoniny mountains.
There is also a stone board with some information about Bieszczady Big Way called "Wielka Pętla". It is 147 km long. It starts in Lesko, then runs through Uherce Mineralne, Olszanica, Ustrzyki Dolne, Czarna, Lutowiska, Ustrzyki Górne, Cisna, Baligród and goes back to Lesko.
There is also a wooden hut there and an old painter and sculptor sits there and sells his work.
You can see some ash trees there, one of them is 130 years old. Such trees were often used by Łemkowie and Bojkowie people to build their houses.
Next to the car park there is a promotion board telling about the sky stellar park "Bieszczady" and a space to install the telescope. There are also a table, a bench and a board with the panorama of Bieszczady seen from Wyżna Pass. The dendrological and historical path "Berehy Górne" starts there too. The short information placed at 18 travel stops along that path tell about those interesting points.
