Sobień Hill and the ruins of Kmita Family's Castle

Sobień hill is a part of Słonne Mountains. It is the Nature Reserve. The ruins on the top of Sobień used to be the wooden castle. Then the castle was rebuilt as the fortified brick castle. In the 14th century the king Władysław Jagiełło offered that castle to Kmita family because they deserved it their service to the King and Poland. In 1417 the owner of Sobień castle organized the wedding party for the king Władysław Jagiełło and his wife Elżbieta Granowska. After Kmita family had moved to Lesko, Sobień castle began to fall into ruins. During the second world war the UPA band had their hideout there. Many legends tell us the stories about that place and people living there. One of them is about an unfaithful wife whose husband made her be placed in the dungeon of the castle. Then he ordered to build a wall there not to let his wife live any more. She died.
After our tourists had visited Sobień, they decided to walk along the Nature Trail to see the most beautiful parts of Słonne Mountains Landscaped Park.
